Ever since time began people have been trying to get airborne, after many wild and wacky attempts by various brave souls, the Wright brothers managed it in 1903 with a fixed wing aircraft. Later on, roundabout 1940, early helicopters appeared with their rotary wings, but few realize that the helicopter itself was a development of an earlier rotorcraft, the Autogyro.
